Celebrating Excellence: Josh Quantick Achieves Prestigious AM2S Qualification

Delta Smoke Control’s investment in accredited competence continues with our Internal Sales Engineer’s latest achievement: AM2S.

At Delta Smoke Control, we believe that true expertise is demonstrated not just through experience, but through accredited, independently assessed qualifications. We are therefore immensely proud to announce that our Internal Sales Engineer, Josh Quantick, has successfully passed the AM2S assessment, further strengthening our team’s technical leadership in the smoke control industry. From this qualification through to NICEIC accreditation for electrical installation, we understand the importance of comprehensive learning and development for our talented team.

This achievement underscores our ongoing commitment to investing in our people, ensuring that every member of our team possesses the verified skills needed to deliver the highest standard of service and advice to our clients.

What is the AM2S Qualification?

The AM2S is a rigorous, industry-respected assessment of core competency for building services engineering. It is a practical, hands-on evaluation that tests an individual’s ability to safely and correctly install, terminate, and commission electrical systems and components. It is an End Point assessment EPA on electrotechnical apprentices in the UK training under the new Apprenticeship Standard, proving they meet national standards for competence in electrical installation, covering fault finding, testing, and safe isolation. For a specialist in smoke control, this electrical competency is critical. Modern smoke control systems are intelligent, integrating complex addressable panels, motorised dampers (MSFDs), and Building Management Systems (BMS). Understanding the electrical principles that underpin these systems is essential for accurate specification, troubleshooting, and seamless on-site integration.

How AM2S Complements Our NICEIC Accreditation

Josh’s individual AM2S achievement and our company’s NICEIC accreditation represent two sides of the same coin in demonstrating electrical competence:

  • AM2S (Individual Competency): This proves Josh personally has the hands-on skills, knowledge, and practical ability to safely install, terminate, and test electrical installations to the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations standard. It’s his personal “license to practice” core electrical work.
  • NICEIC (Company Competency): This certifies that Delta Smoke Control as an organisation has the systems, processes, qualified supervisors, and business practices to deliver electrical work safely, competently, and to industry standards. It’s our company’s quality assurance stamp.

Think of it this way:

  • AM2S = The qualified pilot with proven flying skills
  • NICEIC = The airline’s safety certificates, maintenance protocols, and training systems

When you work with Delta Smoke Control, you get both: individually qualified engineers like Josh, operating within a company-wide framework of accredited quality and safety.

This dual-layer assurance is particularly critical for Gateway 2 submissions under the Building Safety Act, where the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) requires evidence of both individual competence and organisational quality management for electrical aspects of life safety systems.

Why This Matters for Delta Smoke Control’s Clients

Josh’s AM2S certification is more than a personal milestone; it directly benefits every architect, contractor, and Facilities Manager we work with.

  1. Confidence in Specification: When you discuss your project’s requirements with Josh, you are receiving advice grounded in a deep, practical understanding of electrical installation standards. This ensures the systems we propose are not only compliant but also optimised for performance and reliability.
  2. Enhanced Technical Dialogue: His qualification bridges the gap between sales and technical delivery. He can translate complex engineering concepts into clear solutions and collaborate effectively with our installation and commissioning teams, preventing costly misunderstandings.
  3. A Culture of Competence: Josh’s achievement is part of a wider culture at Delta Smoke Control to invest in our team’s knowledge and practical skills, to build an outstanding workforce.

A Word from Josh Quantick

“Passing the AM2S was a challenging but incredibly rewarding process. It has deepened my practical understanding of the electrical infrastructure that supports the life safety systems we design and supply. For me, it means I can provide even more precise and valuable support to our clients, ensuring the solutions we develop are both innovative and fundamentally sound from the ground up.”

Our Commitment to Raising Industry Standards

In an era defined by the Building Safety Act and heightened focus on the “Golden Thread” of information, proven competency is non-negotiable. Delta Smoke Control is proactive in meeting and exceeding these new standards.

Josh’s AM2S qualification joins our portfolio of accreditations, including:

We don’t just follow standards; we invest in the people who embody them.

Congratulations to Josh on this outstanding achievement. His dedication to professional development exemplifies the Delta Smoke Control ethos: to be the most knowledgeable, reliable, and technically proficient partner in smoke control.
