Josh Quantick named Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2026

Delta Smoke Control’s Josh Quantick named Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2026

Internal Sales Engineer takes top award at Steve Willis Training’s annual graduation, capping a four-year electrical apprenticeship and the AM2S End Point Assessment.

Josh Quantick, Internal Sales Engineer at Portsmouth-based life-safety specialist Delta Smoke Control, has been named Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2026 at Steve Willis Training’s annual graduation ceremony. The award recognises Josh as the standout performer in his cohort, judged on technical skill, on-site performance and academic results across his electrical apprenticeship. The award follows Josh’s successful completion of the AM2S End Point Assessment – the rigorous, hands-on evaluation that electrotechnical apprentices in the UK must pass under the current Apprenticeship Standard to demonstrate competence in electrical installation, including fault-finding, testing and safe isolation in accordance with BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. Josh was presented with his award in front of fellow graduates, employers, tutors, family and industry guests.

Josh’s win comes at a moment when the electrical industry is under heightened scrutiny on individual and organisational competence. Under the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Building Safety Regulator’s Gateway 2 regime, evidence of both individual competence and organisational quality management is now expected for the electrical aspects of life-safety systems – an area in which smoke control sits squarely. Josh’s personal AM2S certification, alongside Delta Smoke Control’s NICEIC accreditation, gives clients dual-layer assurance from specification through to commissioning.

“We could not be prouder of Josh. Josh has shown the kind of curiosity, professionalism and commitment to detail that this industry needs. “To be recognised as Apprentice of the Year by Steve Willis Training – against such a strong field – is a fantastic achievement for him personally, and a clear validation of the investment we make in our people. “At Delta Smoke Control, we believe true expertise is demonstrated not just through experience, but through accredited, independently assessed qualifications. Josh embodies that ethos, and he has a very bright future ahead.”

“There were some really strong apprentices in my year, so to be picked out like this means a huge amount. Passing AM2S was already a milestone, but to walk away with Apprentice of the Year on top of that is something I won’t forget. Thank you to everyone at Delta Smoke Control for backing me, and to the team at Steve Willis Training for the quality of teaching. I’m looking forward to building on it.”

"This is a fantastic achievement for Josh and one he should be very proud of. We are certainly very proud of him – he was the standout student throughout the regular check-in sessions over the 3 years, so it is thoroughly deserved.”

As an Internal Sales Engineer, Josh works between Delta Smoke Control’s sales and technical delivery teams – translating engineering requirements into clear, compliant solutions for architects, fire engineers, main contractors and Facilities Managers working on smoke ventilation, mechanical pressurisation and smoke and heat exhaust schemes. His new qualification deepens the practical electrical understanding he brings to every project conversation.
